the best lemon - 1996 Pontiac Grand AM
By pmt - December 11 - 8:23 pmI bought the car in the beginnig of 2003 @ 101k. For the last year I had to repalce the starter, alternator, clutch, windshield and water pump (that killed me, over $500 for a simple water pump, problems with A/C. At 104k the transmission died and I junked the car. The worst reliability ever.

Another Repair - 1996 Pontiac Grand AM
By A. Motorist - July 21 - 2:00 amCar purchased new from dealer. Have replaced every power window motor at least once and two, twice, @ 2-400 each. Transmission is loud when shifting. Continued problems with gear shift and not being able to remove the key when vehicle is placed in park. Another $600 repair. Interior doesnt wear well. Air conditioner is unreliable at best. Every dealer gives a different story as to what it would take to repair. UNRELIABLE CAR. NEVER AGAIN

A HORRIBLE CAR - 1996 Pontiac Grand AM
By Sandra Poppell - July 12 - 10:00 amI bought this car, a demo, from a dealer with less than 3000 miles on it. This car is on its THIRD totally new, transmission at 62,000 miles. All of the window motors and door locks, the coil housing unit (twice), the catalytic converter (twice), power steering unit, water pump and both oxygen sensors were replaced within three years. There have been numerous repairs to gauges, fans, and pressure lines. Ive had the car towed twice this year because it starts and then chokes off immediately. They cant find the problem. I got a recall notice today from GM stating a "starting" problem that could cause fire. Great!! I wouldnt recommend this car to anyone.

Beware! - 1996 Pontiac Grand AM
By Cleo - October 14 - 5:23 amI bought this car 2 years ago for my son. I have probably spend over $3500 in repairs since then. From the alternator 3 weeks after I bought it to the failure of the electrical system to the the cracked radiator ect...I gave up and put this car where it belong: to the junk yard. If you start having problems with this car..think twice before atrating to spend hundreds of dollars in repairs. It is not worth it.

Unreliable - 1996 Pontiac Grand AM
By maliki304 - October 22 - 2:00 amThis has been the most unreliable car I have ever owned. In six months I have had to replace many things such as struts, washer pump, battery, alternator, along with several other lesser things. I will not buy another GM vehicle.

Dont Ever buy Pontiac - 1996 Pontiac Grand AM
By Rodney Rollins - September 29 - 3:06 pmCar was a disaster from the first year owned. 12 visits to the shop for brakes, mirror knob kept falling off, and visor. I have gone thru 3 radiators, 4 alternators, 2 starters, then it was determined there was a recall on the starter switch, after years of turning key repeadetly on to start, it is determined to be a fire hazard, and needed immediate recall. You think that might have something to do with all the electrical problems. 1 month after fixing the switch the starter went out again, and Pontiac refused to believe the faulty starter switch was to blame. I have since had the seat fail (my wife who is 120 lbs drove this car), and finally the engine gave out at 106k miles.WONDERFUL
